Gold/Silverleaf
Once again we are introducing a new approach to the way we work. It is our belief that the love we put into our art is what makes it special and what sets us apart. These collections have been hand gold and silver leaf painted in our studios by a new member of our artistic crew who specializes in leafing. You will be seeing more of this skill in future pieces.
| Bartholomew Hummingbirds
Continuing our commitment to introducing the “lost art of Leafing” we have selected from the archives a pair of stunning hummingbird etchings. The Bartholomew Hummingbirds are leafed on the breasts and tails to pick up the magic of the color and movement of the birds in real life. Our inspiration for this work comes from John Gould’s epic work published in the early 1880s as foreman to the Royal Gardens of Windsor.
Christopher recommends hanging these in a manner where the light can reflect the hand-applied gold leafing . | Gallicus Hands, Goldleaf The Book of Secrets was published in 1717 in Germany. It became one of the earliest compendiums of the esoteric arts including: chiromancy, metoscopy, astrology, astronomy, and onomantia. It is one of the most interesting collections ever purchased. | Helford Horse, Goldleaf
Our newest debut to our “Solid Gold” series is the Helford Horse. Originally taken from the Lord Helford Collection, we have revisited the piece, focusing on the front and back perspectives and applying gold leaf to the entire horse image. We then silkscreen on top of the gold leaf, accentuating the movement and lines on the body. |
| Rumana Seahorses, Silverleaf & Silkscreen | Sieger Tulips Our Sieger Tulips have been extracted from Viennese botanical lithographs made by Eduard Sieger around 1880. These botanicals have been embellished with hand-applied gold leaf and silkscreened over. The interaction between the silkscreened black fine lines, gold leaf and aged background is stunning. |
| Tolstoy Birds, Gold and Silverleaf
As part of our "Solid Gold" series, we have selected a pair of images showing flight amongst various birds of prey. We have hand gold and silver leafed each of the birds to give a spectacular display of these birds in flight. The pages have been hand deckled and then floated on a bed of linen. | Turot Geometrics, Silverleaf
Originally purchased in Sweden, these unusual geometric designs are from a collection called Librarie Classique de CH Delagrave- Editeurs a Paris. We believe it was published as an educational aid in the world of science and mathematics around 1884 – 1911. We have silver-leafed the negative spaces in these designs, bringing a modern yet classic approach to these abstract patterns. |
| Modern Pansies Collection This pair of stark and beautiful pansies has been hand gold leaf painted in our studios by a new member of our artistic crew who specializes in leafing. The leafing and new coloring add a modern twist to a classic image. | Tree of Life Collection Inspired by the film Avatar and the message behind it, we are also paying respect to mother nature by introducing a spectacular tree of life that we have painstakingly hand painted with silver leaf by resident artist Briana Horne. This is a new endeavor for NC and one that enhances the belief that a true artisan approach to art is the way forward. |
